I finished most of the precreases on the bottom half. I did the scales, but only part of the diamond molecules. I'm going to leave it that way. I don't need 100% of the creases.
Here's the picture. It's a pretty bad picture, I don't see how you can possibly show all the creases without glare.

Now when I start folding, should I do the diamond molecules or the legs first? That's the one question that is prohibiting me from folding.
I think I can do the diamonds and when I'm done I can partly unfold the top part and make the legs.

I always fold the diamond molecules first since they are a little harder to fold. The legs are real easy.

Kareshi: That would be most helpful in my own attempt! The crease pattern is public so I see no copyright infringements.
How does one note precreasing scales? Or did you only fold them one time and that was it; in otherwords no folding and unfolding?

I used a straightedge and a stylus to precrease my scales! One used for a touchscreen. It wasn't as sharp as my bone folder, and the scales came out just fine.

Have you ever been told an idea so good, logic and clever that you laughed? That's what happened here! A stylus! One of those ds things (or whatever it came from) brilliant!

You can use a stylus to make creases on paper? Is that how people prevent boredom when pre-creasing cps? Are there any other "cheats" for creasing paper?

Do a search for embossing tools. Makes it much easier to do all the valley folds in a cp accurately assuming you have the cp drawn/printed on the paper already.

Would it still work if you used a ruler to find references, and the creases weren't already drawn on?

It would be very difficult to do it if the creases weren't drawn on. I'm sure it would be possible, but for the time it would take, it's much more worthwhile to sketch out the CP directly on the paper. Just draw it on the white side so it won't show on the model.
(And you'll need to precrease the grid regardless.)

Dragon- I think that should work. I would make two points with pencil lightly and line up the ruler to connect the dots. That's if I were to use the stylus, but I would rather just fold to make the creases.

I folded the bottom half of my ryu jin. I haven't shaped it yet, I'm waiting until I do the top half.
Here are the progress pictures.

One issue that I'm having is that when I try to curve the body, a section of the scales buckle out. You can see it in the last picture a couple inches behind the legs. Will it go away after I wet fold? And my wet folding is dampening my finger with water and rubbing it on the thicker layers that needs to be wet folded. I think that kind of method will remotely work.

I see you started to shape the legs of your ryuzin, but you should shape them like the legs of the ancient dragon. If you keep shaping the legs in the way you are doing it the fingers will look a little short.

I haven't done this model so i don't know what sort of flaps the scales are, but couldn't you just pull the bad ones inwards a bit, so they are beneath layers a bit more and therefore held in? It is probably possible to bring it down to just one fault and/or area where there maybe a flap that should be a scale that is poking in the way and needs directing or something. Hope this helped!

My first 2.1 is finished - 48" white kraft, 18 hours. It's basically a giant test fold, so I went easy on the head. My next 2.1 (the real one!) is in production!

That was fast! Congratz kareshi!
Folder from Hønefoss, Norway. Pretty advanced, but I'm not that good at designing :P
