Re: Robert J Lang's garden spider
Crease patterns almost always don't lead you exactly to the finished form. They (again generally) lead to a base, which is then further altered by detail folds/shaping to match the final product. This CP leads you to the base for the spider, which should have 8 flaps for legs, a body flap, and 2 fang flaps. They are not pointing the right direction, aren't skinny/wide enough, etc.
Shaping varies from model to model, but here is a brief overview of the shaping for this spider:
-Reverse-fold all of the legs so they point out to the sides.
-Pinch the legs so that they become sufficiently skinny.
-Fold joints in the legs so that they aren't just straight, skinny points.
-Pull pleats out from the abdomen flap to simultaneously widen it and give it roundness. This is a largely sculptural manuever.
This is a somewhat vague explanation, but it should hopefully guide you through the shaping process. Every CP base will be shaped differently, and it is up to the folder to decide how to finish off the work. Think of it like a brand of sculpture, and good luck!

Re: Robert J Lang's garden spider
Looks like 32nds, 64ths for the narrowed side. I might have counted wrong though.

On youtube, Jonakashima has made a tutorial for Lang's tarantula. It shows you how to get the puffy abdomen

Re: Robert J Lang's garden spider
I just want to know how to fold the garden spider's body. I have no idea how to make the abdomen and the head.
Re: Robert J Lang's garden spider
I'm sorry, I have NO IDEA what you are having trouble with..... just look up a picture of the real thing!

Robert Lang pulls out several layers of paper trapped within the abdomen side of the paper, causing it to not lie flat, and look like a rounded stomach.
