Cherry blossom help!

Post by missKristel »

Hello everyone!

I recently got into origami (for a school project but I discovered that origami is really fun) and I found this really cool design of a cherry blossom. Here's the design: http://www.origami-resource-center.com/ ... somssc.pdf

However, I can't seem to get past Step 15 (and 16). I'm really stuck there (but I bet it's something really easy that I fail to understand xD)

I was wondering if someone could help or explain it to me~ :D

Thanks in advance.

Hey there!

After fighting with those two steps for a little while, I found this photo sequence on the same page as link you provided. That gave me a better idea of what was supposed to happen.

It helps to pre-crease along the two side valley folds. You can valley fold the middle crease too, but you will be reversing it to a mountain fold in the next step. Then you pull the two top layers of paper upward at the bottom of where the mountain crease is indicated (bottom of the middle), and it will start pulling the right side of the paper over to the left. Create the small flap by letting it go all the way to the left side along the pre-crease and then folding down on the left and middle pre-creases.

If you're still having trouble, let me know! Also, let me know if you got it to turn out nice in the end! I tried to finish mine, but my paper was pretty mangled from trying to figure it out, so it ended up tearing.

Good luck!

Oh thank you so much for your help! I understand it much better now.

I think I still have some trouble with the open sink (using the open sink on a pentagon shape) because after I've done the open sink it looks really really sloppy like this:

I understand how to fold the inner flaps but it looks sloppy like this:

And then my top view looks like this xD

And my end result looks like this:

xD Such a sad little flower... I really need to practice more I think (I'm not giving up! :D )

Practice makes perfect :)
In origami, always aim for accuracy, that's what I say. Accuracy, and crisp creases! Heed my words, and you'll go far XD

Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.

If it makes you feel better, mine looked way worse than that when I was trying to figure it out! :D

With the open sink, I opened up the paper completely to do it. When you open it up, you'll see an inner pentagon shape. It helps a lot to re-crease the folds on the inner pentagon (you might have to change some from valley folds to mountain folds if you're looking at the paper with the coloured side up). Then you fold it back up, sinking the middle along those creases.

Folding it back up is a little tricky, but if you keep playing with it, you should eventually get it back to the way it's supposed to look. You want it to look like 14, where there are three flaps on one side and two on the other side.

Hope that helps! Keep trying! :)
