Blade Runner Origami Diagrams

Post by bogaitnas »

Dear Community,

Being the cult film Blade Runner so popular, why is that we cannot have diagrams for the unicorn, which follow the traditional rules of origami? The model that everybody feels satisfy with uses two papers and cuts, in order to achieve the resemblance with the one in the film.

Also, Joseph Wu has met the person in charge of the origami in the film, but he has said nothing about the unicorn, only that someone else took care of it.

Is there anybody who could help me with this? Thank you all.

Your post makes not much sense.

So does it or doesn't it follow the traditional rules of origami?

Also a 30 second search on Google gave me this link: http://cgi.linkclub.or.jp/~null/unicorn/unicornP0.html

My guess is bogaitnas wishes for a model made from one square only without the usage of cuts and glue, what the Blade Runner Unicorn isn't.
There are several puristic and very nice Unicorn models out there, but I don't know any puristic ones that resemble the one from Blade Runner. It would also be hard to get a similar result as puristic model since the paper distribution achieved by using more than one sheet is hard to copy with only one sheet, leading that there will be far more paper in spaces like the head that will have to be dealt with. But who knows, maybe someone is up to take the challenge. I for one think there are more elegant models out there rather worth folding, so I won't spend time trying to copy a multi-sheet model with only one square sheet of paper.

Anna, reading again through that confusing wording I see you're right. And I also agree it is not worth it, no matter how much you like the movie. And complaining that it can not be made from one sheet, is ... well

Thank you guys.

And, yes, Origami_8, one piece only is insufficient to achieve resemblance. The puristic approach won't get there!

The thing is, someone saw the sort-of tutorial I did for the chicken in Blade Runner

http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=8XWKKKSZ ... XWKKKSZo28

and would like to have something similar for the unicorn.

Yes, señor compatriota ;) Brimstone Buddha, the link you suggested is the most appropriate.

Thank you again for this warm welcome to the Origami Forum. Regards!

Sorry for the rather harsh welcome. Usually we are a friendly bunch. It's also hard to show emotions like confusion with text only and the fact that many of us do not have English as their native language doesn't help either. So lets start again with a heartily:

My apologies, that was rather harsh.

When I posted that, you didn't have your region stated on your profile, and I had no way of knowing English was not your native language.

Thank you very much Anna! I'm sure we'll be around time enough to show our kindness.

And Brimstone, I'm actually a colombian living in Hungary, but I'll be back home soon. Anyway, which part of Colombia are you nowadays?

I didn't know there was so much origami in that film... a chicken and a unicorn?! I still haven't seen it, but I wanna since I read somewhere in the Web that Ridley Scott is working in a sequel :D. I did read the book it was based on like two years ago and I LOVED IT... I think there was NO mention of origami in it :o. I know the movie was loosely based on the book; I also read somewhere in the web that the director had actually made the film without ever reading it :P.

That's interesting! He was probably given the script and did what he usually does in his direction, and most likely the screenwriter himself came with the idea of the origami. Actually, both the chicken and the unicorn have "a lot of symbology", according to the fans and scholars on the subject (not a few of them I may say). You might enjoy the film, Gerardo.

Even more: last year the Spanish newspaper El País made an online survey on the best film ever, and the two last candidates were Blade Runner and The Godfather. The latter may not be surprising, and the former...

Anyway, the video-tutorial-show-off on the Blade Runner Origami Unicorn has been made. Enjoy it!
