I just got Works of Satoshi Kamiya 2 in the mail about a week ago and let me say... Amazing fun I've had. Accomplished a few of the models already(not perfectly, but I'm not perfect). I started work on Raccoon Dog and was quickly stumped.
Step 31 reads: Pleat fold so that the circled points will be dented.
After messing with the paper for so long it looks permanently messy, I still have no idea how do complete the step. I just don't understand what needs to be done with only a pleat and no additional mountains/valleys.
Aggravating considering I have a phoenix sitting on my desk. What am I missing?
31 is prety simple. just know that it is three demnsional. Pleat exactly how it tells you to, bringing the adjacent edges together. Make sure the pleats connect a the circled point. Theis manuever is NOT flat foldable, but it IS foldable! The circled pionts a pressed inwards, making it 3-D. (Concave) The next few steps, petal fold and swivels will allow the model to lie flat. if you want pictures, I can put em up relatively soon.
Wow... I can't believe I didn't see that. Stared at it too long in the sun maybe? So simple. I was expecting a "will not lie flat" or something if that were the case. Thank you so much!

the phoenix is not the hardest model in there. i would say at least that the lyrebird and hermit crab are harder. both of them are hard in the "can't open the model to do the open sink" sort of way.
Well it was fun to fold anyways, and I'm glad I could help! I agree benthor. But the pheonix has its difficulties too, especially in the shaping, which is pretty straightforward in the hermit crab and lyrebird. Both of which are more technically frustrating, in my opinion.
Haven't had time to focus on it because I have been busy with work, but this is a tough little bugger. 47-49 aren't working as intended. I feel so lame seeing as how there isn't a thread going in the Kamiya collection yet.
No need to precrease. All the creases that you need are already there. The problem is that 46 (I think, and I tried several times) is not a flat form. Very confusing, maybe because some missing text, I guess.
