Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Really?!?! Wow.. the only other thing that I have thought of is Unryu or mulberry rolls because those come in huge rolls. They are really expensive though
I would rather fail trying than fail without trying....

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Here is my 2nd attempt at creating the Ryujin 3.5. It is much bigger than the previous model (paper is 1 metre wide). not as messy as the previous attempt and some of the scales are neat. However it was really challenging trying the collapse the transition between head and neck, but the head features are a bit more defined. Still nowhere near the professional standard for experienced origamists.

I had a go at wetfolding to shape the body with some success, but still can't quite put any significant bend in the neck and tail

You have to put a wire inside, and glue the back (where the spines are) so the model will be closed, and you will be able to bend it, as you wishl0lm4tt wrote: I had a go at wetfolding to shape the body with some success, but still can't quite put any significant bend in the neck and tail

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Ah Ok. I confess that I did use double-backed sellotape to close the model. but at least its better than sewing the model shut. But next time I will search for an alternative type of paper. perhaps I will try out kraft paper

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
Well you are still going to have to use some sort of glue or something using kraft paper.
I started precreasing the top half of my ryu zin 2.1 a couple of days ago. I've already folded the bottom half on a separate rectangle last summer (yeah that's right, it's been a year) and plan to glue both finished halves together. I precreased all the scales on the bottom half and now I'm wondering if I really need to do the same for the top half. Will the top half look that much different if I fold the scales as I go, instead of precreasing them?
Put together the paper is 6x6 feet and I'm using craft.

Well, I'm doing a fold of 2.0 to test the various parts of ryujin 2.1 to be able to do 2.1 this summer. I'm using 28 inch (75 cm) Scotch White Banner (kraft basically) paper. Wish me luck XD

BTW guys! I finished my ryujin 3.5 this week!
Folder from Hønefoss, Norway. Pretty advanced, but I'm not that good at designing :P

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
I noticed that everybody who makes the ryujin (3.5 and 2.1) are able to accurately fold the crease pattern. Am i the only one who spends so many hours calculating and scaling up from the printed crease pattern (A3 sized) and then accurately drawing up the crease pattern?

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
you do not have to draw crease pattern - just divide (using origami method) paper into 3 -> 6 -> 12 -> 24 -> 48 ->96 and do it vertically and horizontally and you will have grid - then you can draw the rest of cp if it'll be easier for youl0lm4tt wrote:I noticed that everybody who makes the ryujin (3.5 and 2.1) are able to accurately fold the crease pattern. Ah Ok. I might do that for a 3rd attempt when I decide to buy some kraft paper. But not for a while.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
I'm having a hard time figuring out how to twist the head so it's right side up. Can someone explain it for me?

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Ryu Zin (CP)
It said he removed it. It might be because the explanation is in Kamiya's book, but I don't plan on buying that.
