Help folding a diaphragm-look-like container

Hi all and nice to find you all here.
I am a newbie in origami, however I used to do some paper cutting while living in Taiwan.

Now, for a party with friends I want to make a game and I wish to make an origami paper structure that it will be a kind of a closed expandable cylinder that its bottom part will be functioning as a camera diaphragm. So, when the "cylinder" is pressed the, the diaphragm closes.
I made the sketch bellow to better illustrate what i have in mind.



I have looked online for quite some time but I only find similar structures that are "cylindrical" and expand/contract but they do not have the "diaphragm" function. Something like the one bellow (sorry the system does not let me import the thumbnail of the link)

Do you think is possible to have a function like the one i describe? Do you have in mind any patterns that (even if i need t combine them) I can have the result I am looking for?

Philip Chapman Bell has a model that has some of the features you ask for (collapsible cylinder), except it doesn't close completely, maybe you could check it and see if you can adapt it.

The side "tube" part from Philip Chapman Bell was exactly what i was looking for and thanks to both keywords you provided i manged to find more CPs. However as I understand the "diaphragm" part is static.
I will keep looking to see if i find something relevant, at least to start from somewhere and experiment, but i need a starting point as i am clueless...

Tomoko Fuse's Pako Pako also has a similar working mechanism. I guess her book "Origami Spirals" speaks about the technique in depth, but I don't know for sure as I don't own the book.

I do own the book of Tomoko Fuse and as far as I can tell there is some technical information in it (however it is in Japanese and I can't read it). You should google Jun Mitani. He has an elaborate website about spiral Origami and has written a simple JAVA program called ORI-REVO. It is nice and easy software to play around with. Furthermore.... It is free to use. You can create all kinds of spiral creations using different bases and divisions. Might be worth a try if you can't find a model you like.

origami_8, BM-origami-design thanks a lot for the names you mention. I will look at them. Mitani's work is just mind blowing.. i never though that paper can be folded in such a way.
I must admit that these few days with my quick researches my view of "origami" has totally changed. Far beyond folding just birds and flowers...

Thanks for the link to Michaels Sanders variation, I wasn't aware of that model and I'm a huge fan of Ángel Écija's box.
