Hello everyone. I'm new to the board, and although I've been doing origam for years i've only been doing very basic models. The other day I made a kawasaki rose and decided to step up from cranes and such. Last night I decided that I would at least make an attempt on Davids cobra, which seems to be a very ambitious project for me. I started out with the head on some printer paper simply to see if I could do it.
Somehow I managed to make something reminiscent of a snakes head
Now i'm trying to understand the pleating for the rest of the body. My problem is as I pleat, the body rapidly gets thinner and thinner. I was wondering if anyone could describe the pleating for me in a way I might understand it better. Or if anyone had pictures of pleating in progress they wouldnt mind posting.

Which steps? To my knowledge, there are two different pleating areas. I myself have not tried folding this model, probably because of the giant rectangle needed.
I'm trying to get the pleating that comes off the neck and down the length of the body. I assume the pleating in step 20 is how you finish off the tail. Thats my problem though. When I do the pleating it just gets thinner and thinner, like what is show for step 20.
I've got some really nice paper for it. Someone gave me a gift wrapped in textured dark purple paper, with a lighter shiny purple on the other side. Its fairly fibery, but very thin. Its not quite long enough, so I'm going to have to attach two strips, but I think it will work out fairly good.

I could be wrong in my thinking, especially since I dont know Italian, but I assumed step 20 was showing the very end of the tail. If I'm pleating it right, (which I dont think I am) then the body is only a couple inches long because with every pleat it gets succesively smaller instead of remaining a constant width. When I get home I'll put up a picture of what Ive got, and why its not working. I really apreciate your help
I am pretty sure, from my own experience, that the body is supposed to get thin and then stay the same thin-ness for the rest of the body... Sorry I can't really, help, I never finished my cobra
Ok, I've got it for the most part. Now i just need to figure exact ratios of where to fold, because right now it makes little triangles on the sides. other than that I'm getting it to work though
Just to clarify what I'm talking about. You see the triangles on the sides? I need to figure out how to get rid of them, and then I will be able to make myself a nice little cobra
Just fold them in to the middle, on the creases shown in the diagram. Forget about what the diagram looks like right now. Then those triangles will become pentagons...
For anyone that cares, I got an italian friend to do her best and translate that last page. I figured I'd post it in case anyone cares.
You start from the first square in the -x- zone of the 15-b step(PASSAGE?). Draw(make) a preparatory(?) grid in both direction dividing in sixteenth(16equal parts I suppose) the 29 squares you have left.
(interno=inside)
Do alternately(?) the movements(steps) 1 and 2 till the end of the SHEET of paper.
Curve ( fold but without folding) this SECTOR-area-section to make the cobra body thicker. At the end make the tail thinner.
It was pretty hard,hope you'll understand ;P
(didn't you find one in english?!? )
If you need something else just ask.
