Who has created their own "original" origami model

Post by My Funny Money »

Hey guys,

I'm just curious as to how many hard-core origami people are out there, lol. I'm relatively new to the whole game of folding origami, but I do truly enjoy it. Anyway, I'm just lookin' for some original stuff that you guys have come up with your own imaginations. Feel free to post pictures (you can do that, right?) Thanks!

INSANE! Lol, I love your photos, those are so cool. My favorite was probably the 84 diamonds. I can imagine it's a lot of the "same" folds, but wow man, I like what you can do. Is there any way I could add you as a friend on this forum? Or do you have a myspace account or something?

If you have a flickr account you can add me as a friend. Otherwise, I am here on the forums-you can send me a private message or email me whenever you want. Thanks for the feedback!

I've created a bunch of my own stuff, but I don't tell people about it. Waiting for the right time...

But you can see some of my stuff scattered around the forum.

But yeah, I'm pretty hardcore. 20 years old, been folding for 14.

I've been folding for quite a while but i havn't taken it seriously until now, i've only just realised the huge diversety of origami. i've become quite iterested in star wars, demon/dragon and action origami. i've never made my own design, but about 7 or 8 years ago i copied one of my friends whilst he was makiking a "jumping frog" and it's extremely different and, in my opinion, better than the jumping frogs that i have seen in books.

I have created only a couple of models.
my three favorites are

my ikarus

because it's my first "real" design, and I really wanted to design this (with which I mean, it wasn't doodled).

my flower

because I still think it's pretty good looking.

my bookmark

because it's very usefull and I use it in nearly every book I'm reading :)

I've also created some stuff over the year's. Those of you who got the christmass book would've seen some of them. Over the past three years I've been developing my construction system. I realise now that it is more my minds way of playing, because I didn't really aproach the whole thing from a construction angle. Firstfold's construction system, or methodology as he would call it, is a complete contrast. It is simpler and less intense, but remarkably versatile. Search the forum for the construction system challenge. We (firstfold & I) are engaged in some friendly exposition.

I actually came across a doodle I made some 10 or 11 years back and it is actually quite nifty. See, my mom keeps everything I fold. I mean we've got boxes filled with brightly yellowed, decade old copypaper doodlings that I don't even remember folding!

You can check my stuff out on my flickr page (in my sig). I'm still working on getting a website up, that whole time thing.

BTW. @BDeyes: You don't come from SA by any chance do you? Cause I designed a jumping frog about 7 or 8 years ago and I remeber some copying at some point.

I made one rose... it's not really good. Here are the diagrams with the instructions.

sorry, couldn't embed. however, you got what you wanted.

1.Start with a square, above color is outside of the rose color.
2.Fold in half (valley folds) horizontal and vertical (NOT DIAGONAL)
3.Fold in quarters (valley or mountain; you choose) so you have 16 small squares.
4.Fold each corner to the opposing quarter (valley) and crease only the middle part so you have a diagonal square.
5.Turn over. Fold double (moutain fold) and swing front flap to the left, and back flap to the right.
6.Fold front flap down, fold back flap up. You have twisted the paper.
7.Fold the twisted square like a waterbomb base.
8.Twist waterbomb base counterclockwise and the rest clockwise.
9.Flatten the waterbomb base.

I've technically only been folding for one year, and designing for one year too. I'm up to above (I don't keep track well) 45 designs so far. All my models can be found on my blog, of which there is a link in my signature. :D

Interesting. Do you have pictures of any of these models?

By the way, my guess was strangely accurate. I now have 46. However, when I posted that, I think that I had less than 40...

I can't remember how many things I've created. I don't keep track. I probably have over 100 creations, but I really don't know :)

I have record of around 50 of them. (Either CP or the first few steps of diagrams)

I like a lot of them, but I hate diagramming.
