Fir Tree

Hi, has anyone folded the Fir Tree from Centro Diffusion Origami site.
I'm having trouble with steps 2 and 3. Are they separate units?

The units on page one and page two are different. The unit on page one is made from the smallest paper and will become the top of the tree. All other papers are folded into the unit on page two:

Step 1: Sink the tip of a birdbase in and out.
Step 2: Make a rabbit ear and squash it upwards, repeat on the other 3 sides.
Step 3: Enlarged view. Make a valley fold downwards, repeat on the other 3 sides. Turn the model upside down and open it up symmetrically.
