Post by NVJ »

Hi there!

I'm was looking for instructions for this model for years, but I just can't find it... I hope you can help me :)

^ These are pictures of the finished model, looks like some sort of a giant swan or something... Made of a lot of little papers...

How can I make this? Can anyone please post here a diagram or instructions to this fantastic model?

Thank you so much! :D
All the best,

The swan is made from Chinese modular units. The modules itself are very easy to make but you need hundreds of them to make such a piece as the swan. Combining can be a little bit tricky too and sometimes maybe a drop of glue will be needed to keep everything together.

We have several topics on this Forum about Chinese modular units:

Thank you so much!!
Those links really helped me

So I got the main idea, I mean how to fold this basic triangle and making this swan, but can anyone help me to make a swan that is similar to the one in the pictures I added in the first message? I prefer that swan than the one at "opane.com" :D

you can find how to make the units and the swan at:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=lhlyAhTztEk

this video has an error with it it still works but it stops at 4 secdonds so skip forward a little bit. i calculated needing to use 14 3/4 pieces of A4 paper for this.you can find another way to make the units and use them on this video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=sKogH8UdOyE&feature=related

this unit on the video requires a half of a sheet of square paper. you can also divide the paper into forths before you make the halfs to get smaller units. you can also make the units from the first video using starburst wrappers to make everything colorful. you need to buy 31 pack of the king sized starburst for just the swan and neither of the bases.... so there you go and enjoy!!! also if you use starbursts buy different kinds like baja and retro and sour just for more colors!!!! yay color!!! :D

Actually, you don't need any glue at all. I made a small one from 15 A4 sheets ( which was about 20-25 cm high ) and one from A4 sheets ( 90 cm high and 50cm wide ) and I didn't need any glue for both of them, even though the giant one weighed over 5kg.
