Help with Classic Zing Dragon by John Szinger

Post by edgey12345 »

Hey I am new to this site, but have been interested in origami for a while and have resently started folding again.

I found some instructions at http://www.zingman.com/origami/zingoridragon.html
but I am stuck at step 7-8.

If anyone can help, not sure what i have to do.

Thanks

It may seem awkward at first, but step 7 is a simple preliminary base (if you had already folded a traditional crane, you should know how to do this step.) Step 8 is a squash fold.

At first you have to make sure the paper looks like the prelimenary fold made in step 7. You then have to take one of the right flaps ( the one at the front ), fold it so that it forms a 90 degree angle with the left flap and then press it down to squash fold it. If you did it correctly the flap will kind of spread open and it should just like the image on the site.

By the way, make sure you use thin paper. I made one of these dragons a few days ago and it turned out the paper I used was too thick for it. It gets really hard to fold the details at the end if the paper's too thick.

i had trouble on this step to not sure why i didn't see it but when you do the preliminary base make sure that you do it the right so that the flaps are on the outside.look at the mountain and valley fold lines on the diagrams. This was my first origami model.

Look at it from a different angle

Hopefully this helps,

You need to fold the sides of the piece of paper inwards. An easy way to do it would be to fold the paper into a smaller square, and then unfold and tuck the pieces in along where the creases are.
