Engel Squid

Post by Gearfold »

I'm confused on step 39 for Engel's squid. Is it just a simple fold? Can someone please put it in more detail?

Thanks.

Hi Gearfold,

Step 39 is a semi-squash fold. Semi - meaning you're not going to fully squash the model flat by the time you reach step 40.

The diagram should have displayed a mountain fold just under and parallel to the valley fold shown in step 39.

When you finish the semi-squash fold, you're supposed to have what appears to be a four-sided pyramid.

Viewed from the side, it should appear like this:

Damn.. ascii art ain't that good in showing what it should look like. :( I hope you get the picture though.
I also do card models -- http://cutfoldpaste.blogspot.com

I have the book, but I haven't made this model in particular. It looks, though, like the move is very similar to step 4 of the kangaroo. It's a move Engel uses in various of his models. Perhaps you could try the kangaroo step to help you figure out the squid step.
