My grandparents are having their 50th anniversary party, and I have been elected to decorate the tables with origami. Any suggestions? I have already decided on Brian Chan's rose already.

P.s. I would like it if there was minimal costs.

How about some butterflies to go with those Brian Chan roses?

Also... why not take it one step further:

Buy some wonton wrappers. Moisten them a bit. Fold some cranes (carefully). Deep fry them. They'll make a really attractive crunchy appetizers.
I also do card models -- http://cutfoldpaste.blogspot.com

How big is the party going to be? Be careful about how many roses you make, because I don't know about you but it takes me 40+minutes of good-focus.

As for other ideas, I don't really have any, sorry. I don't usually fold things other than animals unless there's some obvious connection your grandparents have with animals, I won't be much more help, sorry!

i agree... lots of chan roses for a 50th anniversary may be more than you can chew. if your heart is set on it, just make sure your grandparents have one. if you're in a time crunch, i think otherwise traditional origami is the way to go. if it's in your budget, you can do it with some nice high grade yuzen chiyogami prints.

also, for your grandparents' table, if you can find some nice paper, i highly recommend elias' last waltz.

is last waltz diagrammed or cp'ed anywhere?
i had an idea. i am working on a model of a bouquet of 6 carnations. if i can finish it, i will use it. maybe, i can even later photodiagram it, since, as i said, it is my design.

Neal Elias' Last Waltz was diagrammed in a British Origami Society Booklet http://www.britishorigami.info/supplies/data/bos010.htm
But I'm not sure if it's still available as it's been superceded by two further Elias booklets (BOS34 & BOS35), neither of which seem to have it in.
Elias' "Nureyev and Fonteyn" in BOS35 is similar in idea and subject.

Depending on how many tables you need to decorate and how much time you have, how about "conversation pieces" for some tables.

Simple, freely available examples are: Rocking Horse by Ronald Koh from website http://www.welcome.to/origami_ronkoh
or "Reading the paper" by Herman Van Goubergen from http://www.papierfalten.de/documents/fa ... _paper.pdf

Similar things to these, as with 50 being the Golden anniversary, a lump, or bar of gold seems a bit dull!

Let us know what you decide upon.

the last waltz is available in a few places:

your best bet probably being the OUSA 1998 collection, if it's still around.

I purchased BOS10 with The Last Waltz last year. Although, I didn't see it on the Web Site, I suggest that you contact them directly and ask about it.

If you know thw names of everyoe coming, you could try some of Hans Birkeland's tablecards: http://home.no.net/origami/tablecards.htm. The Indian Bird Card is my favorite.

i just realized how stupid i was. i could have used one of the several different origami databases to see if The Last Walz was diagramed or cp'd.
