Carnations

Post by Lephantome92 »

I have an idea to make 6 carnations in a vase. unfortunately, i need to divide the paper into 256ths. then i just pleat sink at two locations to make three locations, which half of each is a flower. the carnations themselves are rather simple, being just pleated in two directions (horizontally, then vertically), and formed into a spiral. once i have the flowers, i then, basicly, fold the whole thing in half, and make a vase with the paper (what else? :?: )not being used for the stems, and then, voila, i have my first model that actually looks difficult!!! :D/

Really? 256ths? I hope you're got a really large of sheet because that many creases on most kinds of paper is going to drastically deform it, making it harder to keep pleats straight. I think that when you break the fibers, you're partially scrunching them up and actually shortening the length of the paper. Don't quote me on that but that's the conclusion I came up with after gridding sheets into 64ths and 72nds. Having really large, thin paper is going to be crucial. Also try to minimize how many of those creases you're actualyl going to be using. Otherwise you're model, as complex as is may look, is going to be patterned with distracting extraneous creases.
I wish you luck though. :D

yes, when i am done, there will be pictures.
this is the final (?) stage in making the vase of carnations. first, i made the carnation head, which was OK. then, i redid the head, and it was good (Gen 1:3) {ok, sorry, bad pun.} then, i made one with a longer stem, then one where i made the stem into a small vase. now, to get multiples.

yes, i am using a large piece of paper. it is 1 meter square.

I know that creases shorten the paper a tiny bit with foil-I wasn't aware of it being an issue with other papers, though. With foil at least it is important to take that into account, or your creases will become inaccurate.

And I completely agree with JeossMayhem-try to only fold the creases that you need, not the entire grid.
