Looking for a book

Hi all,

I've been trying to track down an Origami book for quite some time, alas with no success.

I can't remember the author or even the title (good start...)

It was white, hardback, slightly smaller than coffe-table sized. Published in the mid-late '70s (it was in my local library in London), with photos of several origami models on the front.

The actual models themselves included the following:

Apartheid - a variation on the crane model with two separate birds adjoined, facing different ways in two colours

Octahedron - this did not start with a square, I recall, and may have even involved some cutting

Bird Bath - quite a difficult one

Clipper / Sailing Ship - impossible model of a ship with (I think) three sails

Any pointers very welcome!

Perhaps this book is "Origami step by step", by Robert Harbin and Patricia Crawford ?
There are a sailing ship, a bird bath and an octahedron in this book. There were various reprints, the first book has been published in 1974.

This is a very good book with nice models. Moreover, it is very cheap !

Great success! Bird bath and clipper/sailboat in the middle of 70's is enough to identify work of Pat Craford. By the way, one Czech journal published small article about origami and also mentioned Pat Craford, but as a man. Author of the article probably never saw Dallas and do not know, that Pat is familier version of Patricia...

I don't confess to being an expert! I learned origami at the age of nine thanks to this book and another that included the basic bases (waterbomb, bird and square) and taught me the ubiquitous "flapping bird", and a cube and pyramid - both made from tbe waterbomb base - that were inflated by blowing into them.

And there was another one, a sofa, made from a rectangle rather than a square. And a jumping frog. No idea which book it was, but the one that you've just found for me was the one that amazed me - I could not create the models though! I've just ordered a copy of the original from eBay and, thirty years on, will have another attempt.

Funny though - even though I've only had four models in my repertoire, they've never ceased to amaze. And I think that, by now, I must have folder WAY over a thousand cranes...

After you get through the Full Masted Ship at the back of the book, you might want to try the Baby Grand by Crawford in Harbin's Origami 4. It takes a little searching, but if you know the tricks, you can locate it online for a reasonable price.

I never actually owned it; it was in my local library. Funnily enough, it was Robert Harbin's old Origami interludes on the telly that got me interested, and then I read that book The Day The Sun Fell...

This book brings back many memories. I distinctly remember trying to fold the bird bath and the ship but I was never satisfied with the results.

On a side note, does anyone know which book has the crease pattern for the boulder? From what I remember, it looked like a crumpled ball of paper which someone unfolded and drew a crease pattern for. At the time, I remember wondering if the model was a joke or not.
