Joisel Turtle/Tortoise?

angrydemon--i don't think anyone is implying that you're not entitled to your opinion. what some people have been (subtely) trying to tell you is that you lack tact. there's an old saying: you can say whatever you want, it's how you say it. i understand you're 14 and invariably a lot of it stems from that.

as for the turtle, all of joisel's models have a somewhat abstract, elongated look, as opposed to the purely representational work that say, kamiya does. many of them have a very whimsical, comical air to them, and i don't think this tortoise is all that different. you can say what you wish, but, "it looks like it got hit by a bus" is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way. no one can force you to write differently, but if you continue to voice your opinion in this manner you shouldn't be shocked when you get some prickly responses. i suggest you go to the thread where dragon man asks for some constructive criticism; i do believe somebody even then was pointing out that you were being a little rude.

Actually, a lot of the things that come out of my brain is garbage. I'm sorry if my "choice of words" offended...everybody, but I still don't think the legs look right. I suppose Eric made them like that on purpose because it looks funny. Uh-oh. BANG!!! AAARRRGGHHH!!! I'VE BEEN SHOT!!!

Not so much that they are disjointed but that he is trying to make them look ridged. There are some tortoise's with funky legs. But again it goes to joisel's cartoon aspect and interpretation. But do keep in mind that this is supposed to be a tortoise and not a turtle there is a difference.

And to AngryDemon I'm not trying to say that you cannot criticize a model or that you have to like it- only to be more constructive and less destructive with your comments. You can say things like I don't like the legs they look odd kind of disjointed. That is constructive. That can start a thread of talking about how the legs might be better. But saying it looks like it got hit by a bus doesn't imply that you don't like the legs but that you think the whole model is garbage. It's quite rude so please as said before watch your comments. And if you can't say anything nice then don't say it at all. No matter what your age you can show a certain amount of respect and when you do you won't be looked on as an immature 14 year old with a brain full of garbage.

Hah, that first photo you posted is one of the many reference photos I'm using for my tortoise design. Those are sulcata (also african spur-thighed) tortoises. But as far as I know, the rear legs arent spurred since they retract so only the soles show.

Joisel's tortoise always reminded me of the radiated tortoise:

I think it's the small protusions at the center of the plates.

This model is excellent. I especially enjoy how Joisel did the shell and the 'cartoony' feel of the model. Let's hope he publishs the CP sometime!

angry demon : I hope that your promise of cleaning up your hormonal outbursts is genuine .
If you cannot show respect for others, I absolutely guarantee that they will not have respect for you .
You obviously have an interest in origami, as well as a talent for it.
I would implore you to reserve insulting comments for other blogs or forums.
For many of us, origami is an escape from the pettiness & acrimony found in much of our daily life. I tend to think of origami as more noble than that.

I love Eric Joisel's work. He creates that great design and adds his special touch that is uniquely his. One of the great parts about Origami is not only creating an animal, but making the animal look like what you want it to look like. Eric has honed this ability to perfection. If he does not want to disclose how he makes things that is his right. It would be great if he did, but if we spend so much time saying, "I wish he would publish it.", we will never create something great.

The turtle is awesome. It is one the best I have ever seen. Great job by Eric.

Same here. And that doesn't mean the design is bad: the legs go well with the rest of the model. It's just Joisel's style (which I love).
