If anyone could help me with this model, I'd be very grateful.

I'm stuck on step 17, (which may be caused by an inaccuracy at step 16) I just can't seem to fathom out the fold's required.

If you can, please help.

Hi matt,

I have the book but i have to honestly tell you that i never tried that model. I'm planning to maybe later or something, although the proportions are kind of daunting (seeing as i suck with ratio's and stuf :p)

But if i can get to fold it ill try to take pics of the steps and stuff.

Thanks a lot.

I was doing my test models on A4 paper, so to work out the ratios, i measured the long side, then divided that number by 5, and mutiplied by 3.

I do admit that it's a bit daunting, but I need to make a bear, and it's the best one I could find!

i would help but i lent my copy to a friend so if i manage to get it back i'll have a go. I folded this model before and i have a vague memory of a difficult step

I've actually managed to get past that step, now. I'd folded something earlier on about 3mm to the right of where it should have been, and things didn't collapse right because of that. There's now some weird stuff going on around the head in steps 20 - 22 that I'm struggling to work out, now though!

lol! congrats on getting past the step! i made a 9x15 inch rectangle. that has about the same ratio...i hope... will fold it in a bit and try to post pics for steps 20 - 22 for you if i can figure it out myself

Hi Half Boy,

Sorry if this post was long overdue. Had to figure out how to post pic and was busy with work.

First of, my apologies if this isnt as helpful as you were expecting. This is my first post like this so im not sure if im doing this right. Just ask if you need any more clarification.

The blue lines in the pictures are mountain folds and the red ones are vally folds.

Step 20 - Forming the ears:

Fold in the first layer of the head with a mountain fold. Please note that you only fold in one layer of the model. Repeat behind.

This is how step 20 looks like when completed. It should also look like this on the other side of the head.

Step 21 - Adjusting the head/neck:

In this step you crimp the neck area to readjust the head/neck area of the model.

First off open up the bottom of the model till it looks like the picture below. Afterward, i pinch the long mountain fold first (remember to only pinch the near layer and not the back layers!). Then i readjust the long valley fold that runs through the triangle (these are initially mountain folds if i remember correctly).

Slowly close the model while making the 2 valley folds that form the triangle. Please note that the long valley fold changes into a mountain fold when it goes through the triangle.

As for the Top layer, this is how it will look like. As you can see, the initial valley fold made in the previous steps(in gray) is changed/ replaced by a new set of valley folds (in black).

Step 22a - Adjusting the ears:

I start by making the mountain fold at the first layer only. Then after, i make the valley fold inside the head. Please note the reference points (one end touches the mountain fold made, and the other is 1/3rd down the top of the head).

The valley fold to the left of the picture/model is made by making the sure the ears are adjusted properly and looks like what is shown in step 23.

Step 22b - Crimping the torso:

In this step you crimp the model to form the front torso of the bear.

I start off by making the mountain fold first. I do this by pinching the model from the bottom and working my way up. Where exactly you make the mountain fold is up to you and your sense of aesthetics. Looking at the finished model shown at the start of the diagram always helps (thats what i do

). After i form the mountain fold on both sides i push the top part of the model in and close it up forming the valley folds. again where you make the valley folds is up to you.

Here is what the fold will look like if you open it up after crimping it.

Please remember that this crimp is only done on the outer layer of the model. The inner layers are untouched.

This is how the model will look like, depending on where you placed your crimp, after completing all the steps. I left out the tail because that is just a double reverse fold. Again, where you make the reverse folds are left to your sense of aesthetics.

I hope this helps. Sorry for the super long post! Again, apologies if this is still confusing... just tell me where it is still confusing and i will try to fix it.

That's awesome. I thiiink I've done the head part right, now. It's a very confusing fold in the book, because it's not always clear which lair I'm folding! Thanks muchly!
