Guspath GO's Lion CP help

Hello.. Recently i did a 3-d duck model that had diagrams but no text or arrows,just pics of each evolving step. It was GREAT! i had to use my imagination and skill to make it..lots of fun...soooo i started to try CP's and i get the idea of CP's, but only i tried to do Guspath GO's lion CP http://design.origami.free.fr/bestof/go/lion/lion.htm and i dont think all the creases are patterned, or somthing, i mean how are you supposed to do the maine? i can get the head and body sort of, but the ears are super basic, the main is not enclosed and the body has both sides of the paper showing, i know that alot is detail to the imagination but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the head enclosed and the body how it is supposed to be... can anyone help me? this seems like a really cool simple model. thanks

Hello and welcome on board

I don't want to discourage you but in my opinion cps aren't the right thing to begin with Origami. To prove your skills it would be better to begin with diagrams.

As you assumed the cp of the lion (like most cps) doesn't contain all the needed creases. In fact it only shows the important creases to collapse the paper into a base. After this is done there are a lot of finishing details to make to get a result like the lion in the picture. I've tried to draw in all the needed creases, but especially on the tail you have to figure it out on your own:

Sorry, but I don´t think that this is a good beginners cp, maybe you could try something easier before, that doesn't need to figure out so much on your own. Some recommendations can be found on Eileen's Origami Page.

Aha! i knew it! thanks alot, ive been refolding that thing all day

I am not exactly a beginner at origami, it is in fact a passion, but alas i am beginning at cp's. i like the challenge they give me...its like a mystery. also i really enjoy doing more "simple" projects as opposed to like wet folding or modeling looking origami....i find john montroll really good and even more recently (and the main reason i want to experiment with cp's) is Hideo Komatsu, wow! he is really amazing, but i wonder what snapping origami is supposed to mean :[ alas this shall be a more enjoyable journey now that i know not all the steps are shown. again thank you

I still cannot get that silly lion...you were very right...it was to difficult for me at this stage :( i just dont see how to even fold the base shape or anything...its just like random folds, that like corrospond somehow but in no particualr order..i shall practice more.. thank you very much for taking the time to humor my request though! that was very kind of you!

A really good beginners cp would be Brian Chan's Dobsonfly, I folded it several times now and am very happy with the result. The only thing is that you have to use very thin tissue foil to get a nice result.

it is easy!!!! i made it many times with no trouble at all!!

but this lion isn't hard anna i think that it is also a great starters cp. (if you know that the creases are only for base and you have to make details yourself, i didnt so i thought cp's where impssoble..then i found out and can do cp's

)

Hey Morgan,

How close did you get to completing the Lion? I looked at the picture and it looked like a pretty complicated fold. Or did you finish your model yet?

um, I'm just learning how to fold Crease Patterns, and I would like to attempt Brian Chan's Dobsonfly, but unfortunately, the link provided does not take me to the CP. Is there another way to it?

Erm, hi people. I am a newbie here, and I am currently embarking on an origami project. I admire that lion, and have downloaded the crease pattern. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to go about folding it. Could a senior please advice? Thanks!

Hi Whitefang938,

This is for you because Morgan has found out how to fould it by now I think. I folded allready some of Guspath's models including the lion. After folding it from the crease pattern first (the one of origami_8) I resently found Guspath's own diagrams. Below you find the link. If you want to figger out the CP by your self I advise just don't look.....
Anyway succes on this great model.

by the way there is also a diagram for his welsh corgy I have only found there

I think I have the diagram of the Duck Morgan says... "3D Duck", I tried, but the result wasn't very good...
