Jason Ku - Ranger (CP)

I recently started to make attempts to make CP's, so I started with Jason Ku's Ranger because it looked doable for a beginner like me

My question is:

If you scroll down, there are 2 Cp's, the one on the left and the one on the right.
Are these cp's for 2 versions of this model or just folds that I need to add extra later on?
So basically will these 2 CP's have the same result?

I get a bit confused by the thick lines in the right one.. do these have a function??

Yes, they will both give the same result. The one on the right is just to show the circle/river packing (the green lines).

i folded it 2 years ago and it is in fact not too difficult. Here's mine in a nearly finished state:

This is what I made of it for now.

Legs may look a bit weird, the angle wasn't completely right.

And i got some questions:
1. In the center im constantly not using a fold (the red line on the pic below):

Do I need to use this fold?

2. I only seem to get 4 fingers in stead of 5 (which are on the pic from the website)

3. Is it possible to get the ranger shaped like the pic on Jason Ku's website with this CP, because I cannot form a proper head, since the paper will tear (happened 2 times already

)

1. I didn't find a use for that crease either.

2. Actually from this base you could obtain 6 fingers if you needed to. Check how I collapsed that part:

3. Not that I have, but yes it can be done but you have to find the way to allow for more paper so that it doesn't tear. Maybe not folding to the exact refernce but a little beyond or before.

If you don't use that crease, then you only have 3 intersecting at the points to the left and right. For a CP to be flat-foldable there must be an even number of creases meeting at any point.

So yes, you do need that crease (or possibly a different set of creases that come from those two points.)

Hmm weird that I need to use that crease... can't seem to find a way to use it.

Ah well, this is what I folded out of it for the moment

Hands still need to be done, but the paper became too fragile and is almost starting to rip. A4 paper isn't the best paper to use

I'll probably refold it with other paper (problem is to get the cp on a seperate paper... can't get it with right angles/divisions, so printing is the easiest, maybe use other paper in the printer if possible, but I will see )
