BOS Convention Winchester
Hello all,
The British Origami Societys' Autumn convention is happening this weekend, 4th 5th and 6th of September.
I will be there, and wanted to know who else is going and what is likely to be happening.

Yeah they should send you all the magazines for this year.
But if you want to stay at the hotel you need to have sent off the booking details already.
But you can come down for a day and pay there and then, Saturday is probably the best as it is a full day and Robert Lang will be visiting.

You will get a welcome pack, and the most recent issue of the magazine.Cephalopod wrote:Oh I do hope I can make it...I just sent my BOS application form today :S
I sent it first class, so I should be a member soon...do they send you something to notify you are now part of the BOS?
I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a BOS member to attend a convention.
I'll be attending the convention too. I'll only be their for the Saturday and it's actually the second convention ill be going too since i joined last year. I managed to crack how to do Robert Langs scorpion HP http://www.langorigami.com/art/gallery/ ... corpion_hp so i'll be putting that on display (If you look on my flickr, my first attempt is hideous but its a lot better now). If you do attend, look for a 16 year old with his dad.

This afternoon I went down to the centre where the convention is being held. I dropped off some of my models to display and had a look around, everthing seems to be in place.
And whilst I was there the special guests Sumiko and Yoshihide Momotani arrived from Japan.
Looking foward to it, anyone else going?

I am not going, but I'm interested in a model by Momotani. It was called the Cinderella Coach or the Carriage of the Imperial Palace. He published it in 2008 in "Wheels."
He fused together three other models to get it. Please talk with him about it, And get pictures if it is displayed.
Thanks,
Hank Simon

I have pictures of it, i'll upload what i took shortly so i'll send you the link.
The convention was amazing, Robert Langs speech on polygon packing was pretty clear, lets just hope i can use it to design my own models. His a really nice guy. He also helped me show what was what on his snack time base as I collapsed it to show him. He seemed to like my fold of his Scorpion HP too so I was happy.
Wizmatt- It was a pleasure meeting you. I still love that guitar. Also, your fold of that secretary bird by Roman Diaz was the cleanist iv'e ever seen. I forgot to ask you but what paper did you use to fold it?

Hanksimon - I have pictures of it to..but sadly I didn't talk to him about it as I read your post too late.
Jonathan - It was great to meet you too, and hopefully we'll see each other at more conventions.
The secetary bird is folded from mulberry paper I found in Hobbycraft, but I think that line of paper has been discontinued, but they do stock other paper worth looking at.

BTW - I didn't find Momotani's "Pillbug" in the Origami Database. It may be listed by another name.

I don't know the real name for the 'pill bug' model.....only a few of his models had labels.
Momotani did talk about the Carriage of the Imperial Palace. He did talk about it, he said it was folded from a strip of paper.

Yes, that's it. I think he designed it 20 -30 years ago, but diagrammed and published it only 2 - 4 years ago. It is a fairly nice fold, found in "Wheels" published in 2008.
The model takes some patience to keep things together, but I believe it requires only low - mid intermediate skill to fold.
Thanx,
Hank Simon
