Your favorite origami model?

We all do origami for different reasons; pleasure, business, gifts, what have you, however we all also probably have some model that we're particularly fond of.

For me, it is Kawasaki's spiral shell -- I love it because it is such an ingenious model. It feels like fun folding it... and I can produce a semi-realistic, 3D model in not too much time. Some of the more complex models just feel too much like work for me some times.

The other model I enjoy folding is Yoshizawa's butterfly, because it is so simple, yet produces something that's instantly recognizable, and captures the spirit of a butterfly so well.

I think I enjoy both of these models because they are fun, clever, can be folded in a short period of time, and they make great gifts for people.

What are your favorite models to fold? Please include pictures if you can!

angel, ryu zin by kamiya satoshi.

it's amazing model.. but I do not fold.

it is too hard to fold

so i'm just enjoy photo

fujimoto's cube. i know it by heart and it's actually very calming to make.

There are far better models but i can't make them

the traditional crane (look up and right) is under-rated, too. just because it's traditional oesnt mean it isnt bloody clever

I agree with Fujimoto's cube.
I love the twist motion of making it.

Challenge: Fold Fujimoto's cube using one hand only (it can be done, with a bit of practice). I saw a video of someone doing this, so I honed this skill myself (although I still have a lot to improve before I reach the skill of that guy)

Is it allowed to use a flat surface (e.g. table) as help, or has it to be done into the air? Using a table as help I can fold two cubes at the same time, but I havenÂ´t tried folding the cube in the air with only one hand yet.

I was going to start a "Favourite models that you fold from memory" thread, but I guess this one is close enough.

Anyway,

Kawasaki rose (original version)

Herman Lau's dollar bill flower in a pot (I usually fold it from the piece of paper left over when you cut a square from an A4 sheet.)

Fujimoto's box-pleated tessellations (Memo pad squares are good for folding these.)

Kawahata's Yoda (A caricature that's instantly recognisable, even by people who are only vaguely familiar with Star Wars. Turns out reasonably well even from 6 inch kami.)

Rikki Donachie's swallowtail butterfly (Possibly the one model I fold for which kami would be my preferred material. But it's also a good model for showing off patterned paper.)

Jozsef Zsebe's dragon (Turns out well from a square cut from a sheet of coloured A4 paper.)

I like David Brill's matchbox with matches in it from Brilliant Origami, Lang's ant from Origami Insects and Their Kin, and Montroll's frog with toes. Satoshi Kamiya's chocobo is a new favorite. And of course Kawasaki's rose, I made hundreds of those at my last job to keep myself sane.

Hmm, thats a tough decision to make. I like pretty much all of Hideo Komatsu's models, but I think that my favorite model would have to be Brian Chan's Fiddler Crab.
