Origami Insects II Mantis - final shaping

Post by Aleburzyn »

So, I tried the model with pva treated tissue and finally I got the legs as thin as they should. The only problem now is that, compared to the back legs, the front legs are too weak because they have less layers, so my mantis doesn't want to stand up (ok, it can stand if you try to balance it for a few minutes). Someone had the same problem?

If you need some more structure in the legs, you could use thin pieces of metal wire and hide them inside the legs. I use this technique sometimes when a model needs more structure or holding power.

Maybe you could use the PVA like MC and stiffen the legs into shape with it?

This is exactly the technic I use for mine WisperPuffin. I use PVA with a small brush and apply to specific areas so to stiffen the legs

I use telephonic wire in some of mi models (that wire that comes covered by a plastic film in several colors)

Or just shiwch to an other tipe of paper, thin and strong, I sugets you reinolds wax paper.

I used it for this mantis and gave good results, I only used wihte glue to hold the layers in place.
