I was at my local art store this weekend to get more foil paper and saw this stuff called "Semi-Transparent Origami Paper." It looks kinda like screen projector paper or something.
Has anyone used this stuff? Sounds interesting to use.
Semi-Transparent Paper?

If it is this: http://www.amazon.com/x/dp/B0025TZ5MC
it looks like usual Transparent paper to me. Not so easy to handle but with stunning results. While folding you have to be careful because every Crease is visible.
Here's a model folded with Transparent paper of what I believe it is (the colours and size just look exactly like the stuff I have):

I really like working with semi-transparent paper. It's true that every crease will be visible, so you better work precisely, but you can get stunning results with it. I especially like it for tessellations. Here are a couple of models I folded from such paper:

It's especially nice if you apply backlighting:

Of course, I don't know the quality of the paper that the store sells.

Not sure, but if you like the idea of semi-transparent, you can look for paper called Glassine (in the US, Pergamyn in Europe). It's kinda like wax paper, but with a plastic feel rather than a waxy feel.
Tracing paper has some nice properties.
And, if you want something a little more translucent (I don't know what "more" translucent means), you might try baker's parchment paper (from Reynolds wrap?) that you can use for cooking.

Semi-transparent paper
I would imagine that there are several sources of glassine, but the one, easily accessible, that I'm familiar with, is from Martha Stewart, in craft stores or online .
Comes in a neat 1 inch tube, 3 sheets of 24 inch by 36 inch, several different colours .
One of my future experiments will be to try mating it with tissue paper, but, as yet, don't know if that will be successful .

May I wish success to all who cope with the mountains & valleys of Life,
with all its peaks & depths, as well as Origami .
