Me tooNickH wrote:Lots of good ideas. I notice that several here are planning to do models with a paper size below that recommended by the authors such as Nguyen's Eagle and Satoshi's Ancient Dragon. Having folded these from 50 cm squares I'll be interested and impressed if they come out well with these 40 cm sheets (I don't doubt your abilities!).
Origamido now available :D

I love that you did the stomach pleats, Phillip...does that picture look yellow and bandy to anyone else? Or did Starcraft screw up my display again?
*Edit: It was Starcraft.

No ! I don't create a limited batches to artificially inflate the demand.
So why suddenly the origamido was out of stock for many colors, and why suddenly many colors appears ? That could indeed bring confusion for you.
The "new" papers come from 3 ways :
#1 : Some orders have been canceled. So some sheets are now available from them
#2 : I also set aside 1 or 2 sheets for each color, in case of problem in the management of the stock or in case one sheet have been damaged or receive a bad crease and can't be sell : This stock is the "Safe" stock
Now the rush of order is finish and I can add this sheets on line
#3 some customers bought 2 papers with same color whereas I announce that they can only buy one color. So I keep the color and replace it by an other one (or refund) => more sheets available
Mixing all these options, you can now understand why today I've some colors more available.
Hope it's more clear now for you

Just a note about quantity. Lafosse makes a batch of paper for his own use, and then generously sells the excess to the Origami community. Because of efficiencies, the cost of chemicals, etc., it is cheaper for him to make a larger batch than he needs.
He is also generous with his batch making technique and recipes, and a few people have taken the opportunity to learn how to make paper from him.
I don't know if this is the highest quality Origami in the world, but I haven't heard of anything better. Having said that, it is not the best paper for All models. But according to Michael, it has some interesting properties.
It is very good for wetfolding, it is strong, the colors do not run OR fade (I made a comment about fading a few years ago and was very politely corrected.), it is non-acid, archival - so it should not degrade or crumble after decades. And, because I was scared to ruin my expensive $8 frog paper, Michael assured me that if I folded the model and ... fouled it up, the I could simply re-wet it, unfold it, iron it out and re-use it with n significant degradation.... Try that with any other paper.
(However, Im still scared to use it....
So it's a matter of very high quality vs. quantity.

I got my origamido and made a "quick" video on my unboxing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2lS8knhUhA
This will be especially interesting to those of you that haven't bought from origami-shop.com yet, and are uncertain as to how the paper is packaged etc.

I'm sure you don't mean it this way, Bethnor, but to clarify to others who may not know: the edges of origamido paper aren't frayed in the sense that the paper was mistreated or distressed. The slightly uneven edge of the paper is called a 'deckle edge', and is present on all handmade paper (many commercial producers cut this off, because as Bethnor pointed out, it really can't be used) as a result of the production process. But yes, after trimming the sheet will be slightly less than 16 inches
Just wanted to clarify!
