Grackle-Michael Lafosse

Hey all. I'm stuck on the Grackle from Origami Art. I know I'm missing something...because step 19 just pulls the leg out to the side, and if I do step 20, it locks the leg to the body, making the subsequent leg steps impossible...anyone else have this issue?

Also...in step 25, there aren't two layers to pull apart. Just the one to pull down. Am I the only one who has had trouble with these diagrams?

haha. i did, too frumious. sadly, in this case, i never went back to the model. so i definitely do think there is an error in the diagrams, somewhere...

That actually makes me feel so much better....I know how good of a folder you are, Bethnor...so I can trust that it's not just me...diagram issues also explain the conspicuous absence of any photos of it on flickr or elsewhere...

I tried folding this model yesterday as well, but could not seem to finish it. It indeed seems that something's wrong with the diagrams.

i'm a bit surprised, too, that more people haven't given this model a spin. my attempt was a long, long, time ago, too (probably more than a year). his rendition on the cover is very attractive.

anyway, at the time, i had used japanese foil (as i wagered the model would benefit from final shaping, and foil's my best means of that)... but the diagrams are not two-toned, and he gives no hint as to start color or white side up. i guessed one and ended up with the white-side predominant, which is part of the problem--the finished base is duo (circa step 19-20), IIRC, but from the diagrams, i couldn't tell "which witch is which," so to speak (i.e., i couldn't tell if my layers had fallen correctly). and as i encountered the problems you did, frumious, i had to unfold and refold to try and find my error, and well, the foil doesn't like that too much... after awhile i got frustrated and made an origami boulder from the foil, which i sold for $10 + S&H.
