A very pretty packing paper pangolin pup !

I think you're ready for your close-up.... time to consider the subtle shapings to give it more life ... maybe like Michael Lafosse's style, at first ?

Hehe the folding probably took, when it's all added together, around a day. Then I got the irregular tessellation wet and let it dry between a cookie sheet and a drying rack so it would look better. Next, I simply did the dry shaping, then bound it and let it dry in as best of a sculpted position as I can get. I really need to work on the head/tail/legs ratio, cuz the head shouldn't be quite as long in relation to the body, and the tail definitely must be longer. I have an idea on how to alter the head to make it shorter in proportion. Now for the tail.
I'm actually creasing for an adult to get that better.
When can I submit my diagrams for the Christmas books?
Is there someone who is able/willing to diagram it when I get it fully refined? I hope to have a very good one by the time I need to submit the diagrams for the book.

v3 done!!

Head on left, tail on right.
I basically just rearranged the layout of the scales
Something I can see I need to do is adjust the scale-to-flap ratio. Then, it'll be even better!!

Looks cute.
Unfortunately I don't have the time to draw diagrams for you but maybe someone else can. I guess it could be helpful if you post it on the topic for the Christmas Origami Book because I guess that people who search for a model partner would look there first.

I'd be willing to diagram it for you. Or at least produce some cleaner diagrams, since you mentioned having some hand-drawn diagrams already.
If you DO have the diagrams, and they only need cleaning up, I'd be happy to help out.

Let me know if/when I can help.

As far as I know, you both get credit, if one designs and one diagrams.

Suggestion to the folded model: I think his spines need to be brushed back a bit :-)

Different approaches to make the spines lie a little flatter:
1. After the model dries, selectively moisten the "cowlick" spines and press them down.

2. Get an old stocking or thin sock, put the wet model inside, so that it dries more uniformly.

3. OCD - individually re-shape each scale with tweezers and a wet Qtip.

If I can find a stocking, etc. that will gently hold it whilst over it an lets me clip clothespins where I need them, I'll give that a try. Of course, the biggest thing would be borrowing a stocking from someone!! :D
The biggest mistake I made with that one was the visible-to-underneath ratio. On the previous ones, the number of units long was on the biggest was put underneath each scale. However, for this one, the longest was 4, but the gaps were 3. I'm gonna see what I can do, either adjust the pleats so I have 4 sizes of scales, or just have 3. Yay for a calculator!!

Keep going, because either it will get better, or you'll start to lose patience with the details...

Both Yoshizawa and Robert Lang have remarked that they worked one one model for as long as 25 years to get it just right (yes, Robert, that's how we think of you...)

So guys, should I make it 3 sizes of scales or 4 sizes?

I think 3 sizes for the pup is fine... if that is what you used. However for the full-sized, I'd go with Eric's suggestions, if you still have those Web pages.

I might just send in the pup, and I on't have the links anymore. Do you remember what he said he used? I saw a picture of the "skin", but it wasn't clear enough a picture to count the number of sizes

The question is not about the number of sizes, but the difference between sizes.
Eric could be able to make a one-millimeter progression sclaes if he wanted.
Don't block yourself on a number of sizes, but try to create a smooth progression of scale size to make it lifelike.
I made one pangolin, scales going from 0.5 cm to 2.5 cm, increasing by 0.3 millimeters (if I remember well), and then decreasing in the same way to 1.5 cm.
