here's my smallest crane, made from a randomly sized piece of cigarette pack foil. it's an old pic taken on a bad phone camera but you can still make out what it's supposed to be

I googled it up, and here it is: A square 1 mm by 1 mm was used to fold a crane using a microscope and sewing needle by Assistant Professor Watanabe at Nigata University, Japan.

Superb. What you lot haven't said is how you folded them - fingers or instruments. I'm currently working full time in family medicine, rather than ear surgery, so I no longer have access to an operating microscope or surgical instruments designed for microscopic work. When I did, the results were disappointing...

Anyway, here are a couple of efforts folded using fingers alone.

Two dinos, folded from 1" paper, next to a UK 1p coin (about the same as a 1c coin). Stegosaur by Montroll, T rex by me.

Kawasaki rose folded from 1" paper, base designed by me, 1" paper, displayed on top of the instructions in Origami for the connoisseur.

I once set up an origami PLC. But the business folded.
