I'm sorry that im posting a similar topic to the one I made a few days earlier. I felt that my question was to vague and I should have shown a picture of what step im stuck on. I'm on step 32 where you have to do a reverse fold of the top flap, but you need to do it certain way to have the coloring right and I can't quite get the colors to match. I feel this is crucial because it makes it extremely difficult to do steps 38-41. So if anyone knows what you are suppose to do for 32, and 38 please help me. I've been stuck on this model for a few days and I'm going crazy over not being able to do it right. Heres a picture of what I'm stuck on and it doesn't help that I can't read Japanese either.
Step 32 is an outside reverse fold...actually, it's like a regular reverse fold on the top (showing), an outside reverse fold on the edge on the right (at the point where the vertical right edge of the model meets the valley fold line), and another regular reverse fold on the far (hidden) layer that's identical to the one on the top. The easiest, if messiest, way to do this without unfolding some of the model would be to make the two regular reverse folds, and where the paper jams against the right edge of the model, invert that point.
Step 38 (and 39, which is basically a tiny bit further into step 38) is harder to describe...maybe someone can put up photos or a video.
I think what im doing wrong is that im not assembling it right in 29-30. Does anyone know what you are suppose to do in step 29 because it looks like my flaps are slightly wrong which could explain why this step is so difficult for me to do.
one of the things i have found helpful in general is to pay really close attention to the diagrams. which is to say, i believe that when most of us fold, we just follow the diagrams without paying special attention to whether or not a crease is to be a valley or a mountain. in general most collapses are not so complex that you really need to pay any mind to this, but as you move on to more complex models you'll hurt yourself if you keep this habit.
with complex collapses, it is very important to keep your valleys and mountains straight. make sure with valleys that the sides of the paper on either side of the crease are pointing towards you (the folder), and with mountains pointing away.
thanks for the advice, i was wondering why the model would be flipped when creases are being made. I still can't figure out exactly what Kawahata means in 29 because it seems you would crimp but the symbols don't match up.
