Himalayan Cat

Post by dinogami »

Hi All! -

Hey, does anyone know of a color-changed Himalayan cat model (or a cat model that could be used or easily modified into one)? I've had a request for one. Himalayans are colored like Siamese cats--black faces and ears, black front and hind legs, and black tail, but white(ish) body:

...but they're much fluffier and fatter-looking than Siamese cats. I'm aware of quite a few origami cats, including those at Gilad's Origami Cat Gallery and several others, but none that are quite suitable for a Himalayan. Just curious if there's something out there of which I'm unaware! Thanks much for any help!

I think that Stephen O'Hanlon has a siamese cat design.

Yes, there are some great Siamese cat models...but like real Siamese cats, they're very slender and graceful, whereas Himalayans are much more robust. Of the Siamese cat models I've seen, they're not readily modifiable into something more like a Himalayan. Also, I'm looking for something that is three-dimensional, not two-dimensional...

Funny, that's exactly what I've been experimenting with! Well, that and Maekawa's "White Socks" from Tanteidan #12, although that one too is a bit skinny...

Giang Dinh has an elegant model called Dreaming Cat in License to Fold. Although it is more of a Tabby, you can play with the proportions for different effects. http://www.giangdinh.com/giang/fold_animals.html
(Dreaming Cat is about mid-way down.

Note: Dreaming Dog, diagrammed in Origami USA 2007, is the same model with a different head.
