Eric Joisel - human figure base CP
hello...so upon visiting erics webpage i came across many of his great figure works(barbarians, musicians, comedians, etc) and noticed he uses a rather simple CP (of sorts) to create very large bases that can be refined into smaller bases with much texture and detail. can anyone roughly draw or approximate this basic CP? (im looking at you artur b) ii am very interested in creating large detailed figure peices like erics and although i will never match his great expertise, hopefully i can use the inspiration he gives me to create something beautiful. thanks gang!

The CP of his dwarf can be found online, there is a long topic for help with the model on the forum if you search for it. Also for his barbarians, at least the one with the sword, if you go to his website you can see the design process and it has the base shown (with the head already detailed) for the early version of it (not the final one), but if you practice I am fairly sure you will understand how to fold the final one from the early one, although the details (especially the face) are an entirely different story.
Please, add me on flickr and tell me what you think!

Re: eric joisel- human figure base CP
What I would like to know is how he got a neck out of his characters. The dwarf and hobbit both have that, "face put on the shoulders" look ... which is great and suited the characters, but his other musicians (the taller ones on his site) have necks, making them more human-like yet fairytale.
THAT is a detail I would like to know ... sad but true

He has two different bands. One is of the dwarves, and the other is the faeries. There's got to be a way to do it that is not too complicated, but any models I've folded by Joisel have no neck ... the head is basically aligned with the shoulders.

I figured it out.

That's the link to the CP of the Self Made Man. The Self made man has a rather long neck, but with tweaking of the CP, it could be adjusted. Just place the triangle at the bottom...I think! Well, I don't think I have figured it out. But that's a start right?
P.S I'm new here, Hi!

Hi Samonthepiano, welcome to the forum.
Could you show me an example of the triangles you're talking about? I think that left me a little confused....

This is the typical 'neckless' one. You can see the highlighted areas are the triangles.
One method of making a neck is presented in the selfmade man CP.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/68 ... fmade.jpg/
That is to switch the position of the triangle. Position it midway and have the face forming flaps above. You'll have a bald head though..
Another method is presented in eric joisel's Mermaid. I used mermaid because the CP can be found free on the internet. I Could show the Colombine one in the Eric joisel: Magician of Origami book but I'm afraid that's against copyrights so I'll go ahead.

You still have that top one, similar to the dwarf, but you also have a triangle below that to make a neck. Here you have the dwarf hat which can be molded into hair or anything
I hope that helps, I'm sort of new in this.

Re: Eric Joisel - human figure base CP
to make a neck for the model, you just have to pleat the paper. but, this only works for the hobbits as the paper for the dwarves is not long enough.
